PROGRAM HISTORY
This program began in 2013 as a collaborative eff ort with the Fundación Puertorriqueña Sindrome Down to increase access and funds for therapy. This gave way the present day “Angel Care Therapy Program” and “Angel Fund Therapy Grant Program” that services babies from birth to 3 years old directly at Lily’s Angels via the best practice standards incorporative evidence based innovative techniques not otherwise offered in Puerto Rico. In fact, Lily’s Angels has impacted the lives of no fewer than 25 individuals with Down syndrome, 50 parents, and 200 students who directly participated in community service and education events.
Program that gifts therapy grants for the angels. To date, Lily’s Angels has gifted greater than $25,000 to angels and provided early access to therapy for babies with Down syndrome (DS).
Collaborative outreach and education program with hospitals, pediatricians and obstetricians for expectant and new families to o er support, resources, and access to therapy and services immediately postnatal using volunteer moms, literature, etc. “Angels in Action” is a volunteer organization of mothers dedicated to making a change and improving outcomes for those with DS.
Created an initiative to educate and training to local therapists in novel therapeutic methods associated with improved outcomes but not readily accessible in Puerto Rico. Highlights of scholarships below.
LA paid for Eighty (80) local therapists attended an “Oral Motor/Oral Feeding and Oral Motor/Speech Therapy in children with Down Syndrome” conference with Lori Overland, MS, CC-SLP, C/NDT in May
2013.
Awarded two scholarships for speech pathologists to attend Talk Tools Conference, “Feeding Therapy: A Sensory-Motor Approach,” January 23-24, 2015.
Host Level 3 Oral Motor Certification Training with Talk Tools from August 4-6, 2016; event will be held in Lily’s Angels center that will be open in Spring 2016.
